The Game

Worker placement, wine on the table

Viticulture is Stonemaier Games’ worker-placement wine-making game. You run a vineyard: plant vines, harvest grapes, make wine, and fulfil orders.

Current core edition: Viticulture Essential Edition (2015) — still the version Stonemaier sells. It folds in popular bits from the original Tuscany expansion: Mama/Papa cards, extra visitors, Automa solo, and field cards.

What Changes

Bordeaux board details

Double-sided board (Bordeaux side + original side for storage). The Bordeaux side adds:

4 seasons

Full seasons of worker placement (base game has two)

Faster start

Resource boost; plays better at 5–6 players

Revised wake-up

Updated wake-up chart

Hire Expert

Permanently upgrade one action for your workers

Trade market

Swap resources

Face-up cards

Pick vine and wine-order cards from two, not a blind draw

End-game conversion

Leftover grapes, wine, and coins convert to VP

Wine incentive

More reasons to actually make wine

Playtime about 90–120 minutes, 1–6 players. Includes Automa cards and a solo rulebook. The board folds into the original box / Wine Crate.

Early coverage has been positive: tighter game, less luck, more winemaking focus.

Compatibility

What mixes in

Works with most modules from Tuscany (structures and special workers), Moor Visitors, and Visit from the Rhine Valley.

Not compatible with Viticulture World — that set uses its own board.
The Line

Other expansions still in the mix

Tuscany Essential Edition

Main modular expansion: extended 4-season board, influence map, structures, special workers.

Visit from the Rhine Valley

80 new visitor cards, more wine-process than VP. Replaces the original visitor deck; unique card backs.

Moor Visitors

Remains part of the line.

Viticulture World

Co-op set, remains part of the line.

Common combo: Tuscany board/modules + Rhine Valley visitors. Bordeaux is the 2026 headline if you already own Essential Edition.

Where to start

Start with Essential Edition. Newest content path: Essential Edition + Bordeaux. Add Tuscany / Rhine Valley if you want more modules and a different visitor deck.
